Juan Carlos Perez has dedicated his life to education and community service. He brings a wealth of experience from his roles as a graduate student instructor at UC Berkeley, a mentor at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, and a guest lecturer at Pomona College. With a deep passion for teaching literature, history, and philosophy, Juan Carlos has inspired countless students to read, write, and think critically.

Education:

PhD (ABD) in Comparative Literature studies at UC Berkeley, with a focus on Medieval French, German, and Latin.

DAAD Fellowship for study at the University of Regensburg. 

BA with High Honors from Wesleyan University in College of Letters, an interdisciplinary study of history, literature, and philosophy.

Middlebury Language School alum, where he immersed himself in German language studies.

Teaching and Mentoring Experience:

Mentor at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht focusing on the impact of AI on marketing and issues relating to generative AI and cultural bias.

SXSW Mentor, guiding attendees in marketing, screenwriting, and tech industry diversity.

Mentor for Wesleyan University, helping students improve their writing skills in screenwriting and marketing.

Guest Instructor at Pomona College delivering lectures on poetry, literary theory, and Arthurian Romance.

Graduate Student Instructor, UC Berkeley taught both introductory and advanced courses, ranging from a comparative literature survey course of epic and romance, to a class on marginalized voices in American culture, and a seminar devoted to reading about Castaways, Outcasts and Runaways, with readings that ranged from The Odyssey to Le Mort D’Arthur to Blood Meridian.

Institute for Reading Development/ Reading Instructor taught elementary school, middle, and high school students as well as adults how to read more efficiently (without skipping words). 

Coaching Experience:

Dedicated AYSO coach for various youth soccer ages from U8 through U14, for boys and girls, instilling teamwork, sportsmanship, and love for the game in young players.

Work Experience:

Marketing Director at Art+Logic, where he oversees content creation, Google Ads, social media campaigns, and copywriting.

SEO/Copywriting/Marketing Consultant for a wide range of clients, from entrepreneurs to major companies like Technicolor and B&H Photo and Video.

Writer for Nickelodeon, contributing to the popular children’s TV program Go Diego Go!

ABC/Disney New Talent Award Recipient, developing screenplays and collaborating with industry professionals.

Skills and Languages:

Proficient in poetry, fiction, screenplay, and non-fiction writing, SEO management, Google Ads, Google Analytics, and podcasts.

Fluent in Spanish, French, and German, with additional studies in Latin, Chinese, and Turkish.

An avid outdoorsman with extensive hiking and backpacking experience.
